Newport Bermuda Race In early June, I was invited to watch the start of the Newport to Bermuda Yacht Race. Over 180 boats participate in this 635 mile ocean race, lasting three to
six days. It crosses a a stretch of the Atlantic known for challenging
weather and strong currents. Leslie White, of the Bermuda Department of Tourism, hosted a luncheon at the breathtaking Ocean Cliff Resort. It was a great opportunity to meet travel professionals like Linda Mitchell, owner of Bermuda Travel (www.bermudatravel.bm), who organizes weddings on the island. We had a chance to get to know each other over dinner and found that we have much in common. Bermuda has held a special place in both our hearts for over 3 decades. I'm only sorry I didn't get a chance to set up my easel and capture some of the gorgeous scenery! I plan to do some paintings of the event in future so be sure to visit www.elicedrone.com in the weeks ahead.

Connecting the Arts
In
an inspired collaboration, I was invited to sketch and
the Atlantic Symphony during rehearsal before the Masterworks Gala
concert at Jordan Hall in Boston. Since then, I've been at work
on a series based on these sketches. In appreciation, I donated a painting which raised $2,000. at thier Grand Finale performance in April. To view the entire collection contact the studio. |

California Dreamin'
Having lived in Laguna Beach for over 10 years, I return often to visit friends and fellow artists. I'm an active member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters and look forward to another successful year with them. Two paintings were recently juried into the Best of Plein Air show which takes place at the Laguna College of Art & Design in June. The LPAPA 9th Annual Plein
Aire Invitational takes place October 7 - 14, 2008. Visit the LPAPA website at: www.lpapa.org.
Other yearly events the area include The Sawdust
Festival, Pageant of the Masters and the Laguna Beach Art Walk, with 42
galleries opening their doors for an evening of art, wine and fun. Some
of my favorites in Laguna; the Wendt Gallery, features one of my favorite painters;
Carolyn Anderson, Then there's the Whitney and Debra Huse Gallery, on Balboa Island for paintings of local scenes. A great place to visit and enjoy a casual lunch is Crystal Cove,
an old artists haunt dating back to the 1920's which continues to be a
favorite en plein air site.

Reviews & Notes
Salon Night... Recently I was invited to do a demo at the home of a client in Boston's historic Beacon Hill. The event was to raise funds for COG - Community Outreach Group, a non-profit organization who's goal is to create beautiful outdoor spaces in the Boston area. I received the following thank you note from the host: "Dear Eli, your generosity & great talent is so much appreciated. I hope your ears have been buzzing - you and your painting of Sarah were a big hit. Many, many thanks for being part of our COG Salon. Fondly, LH"
Memories... "Dear Eli, thank you so much for my wonderful picture of Harwichport. You captured beautifully the spirit of a place that has very special memories for me. I will truly treasure it. Love, PC"
