Following in the Footsteps of the Dutch Masters

"... Being thus arrived in a good harbor, and brought safe to land, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean, again to set their feet on the firm and stable earth..."

It is with these words that William Bradford described the arrival in New England of an intrepid group of English colonists known as the Pilgrims.

This summer, fine artist Eli Cedrone will make her own pilgrimage to this historic site as the official "artist in residence." Her studio will be a replica of a 17th century cottage where she will be painting the costumed "colonists,"  surrounding scenery and everyday life of the residents of this living museum. "During a visit to the Plantation I was inspired by the magical, Vermeer-like quality of the light. This unique opportunity offers endless possibilities in terms of creating a body of work in the tradition of the Dutch Masters," said Cedrone. She will be painting on location every Tuesday from June 22 - August 24, 2010. Special educational programs, lectures and art classes are planned around her residency. Cedrone will continue her work there through autumn, with special events taking place during the Thanksgiving holiday season.

A selection of paintings from her work at Plimoth Plantation will be displayed at the Plimoth Plantation at a reception for the artist on September 29th from 6 - 8pm.  For more info please visit the website:  http://www.plimoth.org/.
